As a Clinical Psychologist I have over 14 years of experience working with people from a broad range of backgrounds and in different settings including public health, higher education, non-profit, and private practice.
I held a number of positions at the University of Cape Town's Psychology Department where I was a Junior Research Fellow, part time lecturer and a Clinical Supervisor based at the Child Guidance Clinic. I also worked as a Clinical Psychologist at UCT's Student Wellness Centre.
I have also worked as a consultant Clinical Psychologist to the following organisations:
Nonceba Family Counselling Centre
Students For A Better Future
Institute of Justice and Reconciliation
Doctors Without Borders
AIR - an organisation that provides support to African practitioner-activists working in the areas of violence against women and girls, HIV/AIDS, and emotional well being.
I started my private practice in 2018 and offer short and long-term psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, couples and families who present with a broad range of difficulties. My aim is to manage psychological distress, provide support, and facilitate growth and insight. I offer both online and in person sessions.
Areas of Expertise
My focus areas include the assessment and management of a range of psychological disorders including:
affective/mood disorders such as depression, bipolar disorders, etc.
anxiety disorders and traumatic stress syndromes such as generalised anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, acute stress, social anxiety, panic disorder, etc.
Over the years I have developed a particular interest in women’s mental health issues having worked with women experiencing difficulties related to pregnancy and other gynaecological problems, women who have experienced various forms of abuse, and women grappling with issues related to their identity and worth.
I love what I do and feel a deep sense of gratitude at having the opportunity to journey with people through some of the most difficult experiences in their lives.
I value and aim to provide a confidential, non-judgmental, and empathic therapeutic environment. It is important that clients collaborate in their therapeutic journey and feel empowered.
I make use of a number of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, narrative approaches, as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques. I use whichever approach is most appropriate for each individual case.
Online therapeutic consultations (telehealth) are now endorsed by the Health Professions Council of South Africa and covered by most medical aids. I use the following platforms: Zoom, Doxy.me and WhatsApp video call. For cash paying clients, I require proof of payment ahead of the session which serves as confirmation of the session.
